Overview
"Pregnancy brain" or "momnesia" is real! Many women experience forgetfulness, difficulty concentrating, and mental fog during pregnancy. You might forget appointments, lose your keys frequently, or struggle to find the right words.
While frustrating, these cognitive changes are temporary and normal. Several factors contribute: hormonal fluctuations affecting brain chemistry, sleep deprivation, stress, and the fact that your brain is literally restructuring itself to prepare for motherhood.
Research shows your brain does change during pregnancy, with some areas shrinking temporarily (they return to normal postpartum). This restructuring is thought to help with mother-infant bonding and reading baby's cues.
